How to Make Self-Coaching So Simple, Your Mind Can't Help But Transform

Hey self-coachers,

As I sit down to reflect on 2024, I am reminded of a Japanese art form that has recently captivated my thoughts: Kintsugi. It’s the beautiful practice of mending broken pottery with gold or precious metals, not to hide the cracks but to highlight them—embracing the history, the imperfection, and the journey of the object. And in this way, 2024 has been a year of Kintsugi in my own life. It’s been a year of growth through challenges, self-coaching, and learning how to honor the cracks that make me who I am today.

This annual review is not just about measuring what went right or wrong, but about reflecting on what I've learned and how I can move forward with intention into 2025. It’s a year-end ritual of embracing imperfection and allowing the journey to shape me, as we all continue to evolve.

2024: The Year of Kintsugi

2024 was a year of personal and professional breakthroughs—and also of facing the cracks and challenges that tested me. Like a cracked piece of pottery, I found myself in moments of struggle, but I also discovered the immense beauty in those breaks.

The Golden Cracks of 2024:

  • I embraced failure not as an end, but as a part of my story. The cracks weren’t something to hide, but something to repair with the gold of wisdom, self-compassion, and resilience.
  • I encountered moments of doubt, uncertainty, and exhaustion, but each time, I picked myself back up and used those moments to learn about my boundaries, my values, and what truly matters.
  • Relationships were tested—whether with clients, friends, or myself—but I let those experiences mold me into someone stronger, someone more deeply aligned with my core purpose. Instead of pretending that I was unscathed, I embraced my imperfections and allowed them to guide me.

Self-Coaching: The Kintsugi Way

In 2024, one of the most powerful tools I used was self-coaching. The art of Kintsugi has taught me that I do not need to be perfect to be valuable. Life, like pottery, often breaks. But it is through the repair process—reflecting, learning, and growing—that we transform our cracks into something extraordinary.

Self-coaching is about acknowledging where we are, understanding our growth areas, and deliberately choosing to repair ourselves in ways that bring us peace, clarity, and confidence.

I began by asking myself difficult questions, such as:

  • Where have I compromised on my own values this year?
  • What parts of my journey have been marked by fear or resistance, and how can I view those as opportunities for growth?
  • Which old beliefs or habits are still holding me back, and how can I begin to replace them with a new, more empowering story?

In essence, self-coaching is about mending your own brokenness with the gold of insight, forgiveness, and love. Instead of ignoring the things that went wrong or brushing them under the rug, I embraced them and allowed them to become part of my transformation process.

The Kintsugi Strategy for 2025: A Year of Mending and Mastery

As I look ahead to 2025, I intend to apply the Kintsugi philosophy to every area of my life. It’s not just about moving past the cracks but celebrating the journey that has led to them. Here’s the strategy I’m focusing on for the year ahead:

1. Embrace Imperfection:
In 2025, I plan to be kinder to myself. Perfection is a myth, and I want to start this year accepting that mistakes, failures, and imperfections are integral to the process. Instead of hiding them, I will celebrate my flaws and turn them into strength.

2. Reflect and Repair:
Just as a craftsman carefully repairs pottery, I will take time each day to reflect on my actions, thoughts, and emotions. Every mistake will be an opportunity to learn, repair, and grow—with gold, patience, and understanding.

3. Create Space for Healing:
In 2025, I want to be more intentional about creating moments of quiet and rest. Healing doesn’t happen in a rush; it’s a slow process of gathering insight from our experiences. I’ll focus on self-care—physically, mentally, and spiritually—so I can come back stronger and more aligned.

4. Cultivate Resilience:
Every crack has a lesson. I plan to harness resilience as a key aspect of my personal development. When challenges arise, I’ll be ready to not only survive but thrive, transforming adversity into an opportunity for growth.

5. Live Authentically:
I will continue to align my actions with my values and beliefs, embracing the gold of authenticity. In the past, I sometimes compromised on my true self to meet external expectations. 2025 will be the year of authenticity. Living true to myselfand repairing the cracks that resulted from previous misalignments.

The Kintsugi Mindset

As we head into 2025, I encourage you to think of yourself as a work of art—flawed, yet beautiful. Embrace your journey. Embrace the cracks. There is no rush to “fix” them; they are part of what makes you unique, and by highlighting them with golden wisdom, you bring new depth and value to your life.

Remember: Kintsugi is not about hiding imperfections, but about highlighting them as an essential part of your transformation. It’s time to stop hiding what we perceive as flaws and instead honor them as the beautiful scars of growth and healing.

Looking Ahead to 2025

As I continue my journey of self-coaching in the new year, I’ll take the lessons learned in 2024 and apply them with intention. I invite you to do the same. Reflect on your cracks, your lessons, and your growth. The way you choose to repair them can create something far more beautiful than if they had never broken at all.

In closing, 2024 was the year of self-discovery and self-repair. Now, we look ahead to 2025 with a renewed sense of purpose and the knowledge that every crack is a chance for new beauty to emerge. So, let’s take the art of Kintsugi into 2025, one step at a time.

With gratitude and anticipation for the year ahead,

Let’s get this done,

Best
